Bolton Eco House
Shaped like an abstract flower and a stunning view from the air, the underground house is almost invisible – rolling hills in the landscape – seen from the ground and all around.
From beneath it mingles together with the natural surroundings. From the top it is a lighthouse at night. And inside, well, the pictures show everything. In the nearly ten thousand square meters, the house designed by Make Architects for all star football player Neville Gary is as courageous as eco-friendly architecture – aims to become the first carbon neutral home throughout the UK.
Local materials and traditional construction techniques will reduce waste transport and technology while geothermal, solar panel roofs and wind turbines will generate sustainable energy on the site. In short: this house is as green as it gets in all areas, inside and out. This is probably the most daring, the most modern and best underground house planned until today. Sometimes the green architecture is to create a grass-root progress – but in other cases it takes an eccentric person with power, money and fame to push the envelope on home construction environment.
